Have you ever wished for a party that simply blew all previous parties out of the water? You're probably not alone, but it can be hard to please everyone at any kind of gathering due to varying preferences. A good bet for getting the ice broken and the fun flowing is to throw in a few multiplayer games if you happen to have a games console, and the more active among you aren't likely to object to a bit of a dance-off against others in the group, particularly when the drinks begin to flow. Dance games are in fact perfect for house party situations: they require group participation, co-operation, and the pushing of people's comfort zones as well as a healthy amount of competition and the showing off of dance moves amongst friends without having to go out and feel vulnerable in front of strangers in nightclubs. There is no small number of dance games out there however, so this list is an attempt to highlight ones that are well worth consideration for your next social event.
Just Dance 2014
If you're ever in doubt about what to do at a party, just dance! This literally is the best solution to any entertainment problem since Just Dance, a series that has dominated the console market for some time now and sold millions of copies worldwide, is undoubtedly the most entertaining and most current dance game available. Best enjoyed with the hardware support of the Xbox Kinect, Just Dance 2014 will be a familiar experience for dance game fans since it involves mimicking moves performed by on-screen dancers and being marked on your performances. There's plenty of content to get through including fifty songs and various modes including World Dance Mode, a multiplayer experience that lets you dance with other players anywhere in the world.
Zumba Fitness: World Party
Pretty much any of the Zumba fitness games are going to give you some of the best dance game experiences you can possibly hope for, but it is Zumba Fitness: World Party that takes the crown of being the best console-based Zumba game yet. With a selection of songs more comprehensive than ever before, there is no shortage of music to sweat to or dance routines to get the blood pumping. The dance styles are extremely varied including Salsa, Rhumba, Irish Step, and Reggaeton and the manner in which you unlock the various regions of the world and therefore the dances of those particular regions is also most intriguing. Count calories, dance for up to 45 minutes in a single session, or simply sweat to single songs: whatever you do, Zumba Fitness: World Party is by far the best of the series and one of the best dance games out there and you can find the official site here.
Dance Central 3
In light of the discontinuation of the main series of Dance Central leaving many disappointed at the prospect of never being able to get their hands on Dance Central 4, it is Dance Central 3 that holds the crown of ‘best in the series'. The game allows for some familiar-format dancing in single-player fashion but also affords players the opportunity to dance off against up to three other opponents. You've got a huge number of songs, a variety of different modes, and some pretty impressive and natural-feeling dance graphics to boot. The Dance Central website holds information about all of the games in the series including Dance Central 3.
The Hip Hop Dance Experience
While you've got the other dance games offering the widest mix of styles possible, The Hip Hop Dance Experience is a game that appeals to a niche market and brings us a huge selection of dances specific to the hip-hop style. The nature of the genre means that you're not getting old-school songs but it is heavy on the contemporary hip-hop. Its roster includes various artists like Nelly, R Kelly, Run DMC, The Sugarhill Gang, Drake, and LMFAO, and you've got quite a few moves to learn and string together in order to earn as many points and as much praise as you possibly can during the dances. Whether you're after single or multiplayer gameplay, The Hip Hop Dance Experience is a game with a narrower appeal than its contemporaries but with the ability to entertain equally as well as them.
