For every order placed with DanceSurvival, we make a donation to our CUBA Fund.

I have been fortunate to go to CUBA many times and attended workshops and dance lessons with some of the best CUBAN dance teachers on the island. CUBA is a remarkable place and it's people never cease to amaze me with their passion for life, fun, dance - and friendship. However this is set against a backdrop of significant challenges and hardships for them with restrictions on basic items that you and I take for granted. Things are improving - but the pace is very slow.

The CUBA fund is our way to get specific products, like Dance clothing (new or second hand), school products, basic medical supplies, etc., to those that need them most.

A donation is made to the CUBA Fund from every sale made off the DanceSurvival website.

We are not a registered charity as the costs of setting this up is prohibitive in the short term - so we will also be working with charities already operating in CUBA to help them with projects that we can support. This way our donations can increase in value with the help of certian tax benefits that registered charities get with external donations.

14th November 2005

We took our first delivery on 14th November 2005. Initially designated for a local school in Trinidad, Cuba, that was short on basic supplies, like pens, pencils, pecnil sharpeners, rubbers, stationary, etc., we found that the local beaurocracy would take so long that we might not still be in the country by the time permission was granted! Their was also a concern that donations of this nature could raise issues that the state was not doing it's job properly!

So, to avoid any unecessary aggravation, it was suggested that we spoke to the local Priest in Trinidad who was working closley with many of the poorer children in their Sunday School and also a group of Downes Syndrome children who desperately needed arts and craft supplies. This was ideal as it ensured that the goods would get those that needed them most.

Father Cirilo Gonzales Santamaria accepting the first delivery of the CUBA Fund at his parish offices in Trinidad, Cuba. The office is opposite a beautiful plaza and next to the open air Casa de la Musica, where many Salsa dancers gather to dance the night away to the music of the excellent local bands. What a fitting place to start our first CUBA Fund delivery!

Future plans:

We have been asked to assist with a medical program to help provide supplies that treat the HIb Influenza Virus in children.
